We’re taking it Aloha this week with one of the most clever of our National Treasures. #LolaLove of #Hawaii, trained in Brazilian Samba, is always innovative in her performances, be it incorporating technology into her dance of creating fully scripted #burlesque plays. “I don’t describe myself as a woman behaving badly,” Lola Love proudly tells #RedHotsBurlesque. “I am a woman behaving in a way I desire and in my opinion that can never be bad. In 2014 I’m most proud of my show ‘Neon Dreams’ which was about the taboo world of sex. It challenged sexuality, relationships and ideas about sex. I teamed up with a #Maui based troupe, The Ultraviolets, and created a fully scripted black light burlesque play.” Love leads the company #PrettyPeacockProductions, described as a pioneer in Hawaii’s burlesque revolution. Her current muse is using technology within burlesque. “I have been experimenting with black lights, projections to create costuming effects, and even had some costume and props created from 3D printing. It’s been a lot of fun and a great learning experience.” Currently Lola Love is the director of programming for #Burlycon.
WHAT TO DO IN HAWAII: “Two of the best things about Hawaii (besides the obvious answer, the weather!) are the beaches and the food. I love #Waimanalo and North Shore for beaches. There is also amazing Hawaiian food, Japanese, Korean and tons of fresh seafood. My favorite place to take people is to #LilihaBakery, a local favorite that makes cream puffs you would trade your #rhinestones for!”
